Our clinicians at EsthetixMD Spa and Laser Center in Bend, OR are dedicated professionals who believe in providing safe and effective treatment options for patients who are interested in fat reduction procedures. Fat-freezing and fat-melting solutions are readily available at our practice with the use of services such as Emsculpt and CoolSculpting. With today’s improved technology, patients can greatly reduce downtime and enjoy amazing results with FDA-approved treatment solutions. Now, more than ever, manufacturers of aesthetic devices are looking at providing comfortable treatment using technology and eliminating the need for patients to consider invasive and expensive plastic surgery. Emsculpt and CoolSculpting are two popular choices for patients who are the right candidates for body contouring treatment.
Let’s compare these two non-surgical body sculpting services:
When it comes to safety, both treatments meet the mark! These systems are both FDA-approved, ensuring they are safe and effective when administered by a trained, experienced professional. CoolSculpting has been on the market for five years, and Emsculpt for two, but both have gone through rigorous testing and clinical trials before hitting the market and becoming readily available for the public.
Emsculpt results are slightly different from CoolSculpting results because Emsculpt is the only treatment that not only reduces fat in the treatment area, but also builds muscles. Patients will have treatments done approximately five times over two weeks and will begin to see changes after about one month. Patients can continue treatment for even more amazing results. Emsculpt can increase muscle mass by approximately 16% while reducing fat by up to 19%.
CoolSculpting, on the other hand, can remove up to 22% of unwanted fat after several weeks post-treatment. CoolSculpting is a little different as it releases cooling energy through a variety of devices, allowing patients to treat all different types of areas.
It can be difficult to compare directly the results from these two treatments. If patients are already lean and are interested in not only fat reduction but muscle improvement, then Emsculpt is a clear choice. Those who want to remove excess fat and have less interest in muscle enhancement may be better suited for CoolSculpting. If you are on the fence as to which one is best, we encourage you to book a consultation appointment with our professionals to discuss your options and make an educated decision regarding which treatment you should choose.
Both treatments are relatively comfortable when compared to the downtime, healing, and invasiveness of plastic surgery. Emsculpt is painless, and as of right now, there have been no known adverse reactions to Emsculpt sessions. Muscle soreness is common the following day, like that experienced after a powerful workout. CoolSculpting, on the other hand, works by using cold temperatures delivered through a suction-based handpiece that is curved around the treatment area. Because of this, some patients may feel numbness during and following their treatment, but it is often bearable and still rather comfortable for most. Tingling can also occur, but it is short-term. When comparing the two, Emsculpt is probably more comfortable for patients than CoolSculpting.
CoolSculpting has shown a few more physical post-treatment issues such as redness of the area, numbness, and tingling. This may be enough to make patients reconsider clothing choices for a few days to ensure comfort. However, Emsculpt patients may experience muscle soreness, which for some patients, can be uncomfortable. When comparing side effects and downtime associated with both treatments, while minor, both have their downfalls. Discomfort may also be dependent on one’s pain tolerance and, when compared with plastic surgery, is still far less.
Candidates for both treatments are patients who are approximately 20 pounds within their ideal weight, and procedures such as Emsculpt also notes that the best candidates should not have a body mass index of higher than 25 to achieve the best results. Patients who are interested in fat reduction in specific areas may be able to enjoy both or either treatment.
In terms of versatility, CoolSculpting is the winner, hands down. CoolSculpting can be used to treat many areas of the body, depending on the device and handpiece used, while Emsculpt is currently only used to treat the buttocks and the abdomen. This limits where patients can treat areas of fat, ensuring versatility through the CoolSculpting device.
CoolSculpting costs more than Emsculpt, but this is in part because of the extra treatments that may be required. When it comes to treatment of the abdomen, Emsculpt is a clear choice, but the results of Emsculpt cannot be compared to CoolSculpting because of the improvement of muscle mass and less fat reduction than CoolSculpting. There is no “best in class” for cost because of the variance in results.
