How can I prepare for my Sculptra treatment?
Some medications and supplements may increase bruising from Sculptra injections. You should avoid such substances during the week prior to treatment. Examples of these are aspirin, garlic supplements, Ginko Biloba, NSAIDS, flax oil, green tea, cod liver oil, and Vitamins A and E. Some doctors recommend taking Arnica tablets two to three days before treatment to reduce bruising. You should not consume alcohol 24 hours before treatment, and potentially irritating products or substances should not be applied to the treatment area for two to three days before and after treatment. Such substances include benzoyl peroxide, hydroquinone, retinol, and glycolic acid.
What is recovery like after Sculptra treatment?
Recovery from Sculptra injections is minimal, though some mild discomfort may occur. You may apply ice to the treatment area for 15 minutes up to three times per day and take Acetaminophen to reduce any pain or tenderness. Some swelling and bruising may be present but will subside within one week. Arnica tablets may aid in reducing bruising. Sun exposure should be avoided until swelling and bruising have resolved. You should avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours. You should not receive IPL, laser, and skin tightening treatments for two to three weeks. The application of topical products may be resumed after one week.
What are the risks and side effects of Sculptra?
Side effects of Sculptra are minimal and typically occur around injection sites. Swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising, bleeding, itching, and lumps may be present but should subside within one week. You may use acetaminophen, ice, and Arnica tablets reduce side effects.
