How laser hair removal works

While some of it might be too fine to see, hair grows over most of your body. Each hair sprouts from a follicle, a sac of connective tissue and oil glands. The life cycle starts with an anagen growing period, progressing to an intermediate catagen stage, and finally the telogen resting and shedding stage.

Laser removal treatment targets hair in the anagen stage. Short bursts of intense light in a specific wavelength are directed at skin. Pigments in the hair follicle absorb energy from the laser, halting the growth stage, causing the hair to fall out, and inhibiting the follicle from producing new hair.

Since laser treatment is only effective on hair in the anagen stage, a series of treatments over several months is necessary for optimal clearance. Then, only periodic re-treatment is needed to keep skin smooth and sleek.

What is LightSheer DUET?

It is called DUET because this system has two different handpieces. LightSheer ET has a reduced spot size that makes it ideal for treating small, delicate areas such as “unibrow” or upper lip. This applicator uses proprietary ChillTip technology to keep surface skin cool and comfortable while diode laser energy is directed to hair follicles.

The LightSheer HS has a large spot size, decreasing treatment time for areas such as the back or legs. Integrated vacuum-assisted technology improves effectiveness and comfort. Skin is drawn to the device with gentle suction that:

• Creates a tactile sensation, as pressure receptors in skin recognize the pull, rather than heat from the laser.
• Pulls hair closer to the energy source.
• Reduces the amount of energy absorbed by melanin, since pigmented skin cells are further apart as skin is stretched.
• Reduces treatment time for large areas by about 15 minutes compared to other laser hair reduction techniques.

Regardless of which handpiece is used, LightSheer DUET is so comfortable that topical anesthetic is not required.
