Your Juvederm Recovery

Recovery after Juvederm injections is minimal. However, there are some precautions that you may take after treatment to maximize your results. You should not apply makeup, consume alcohol, smoke, or expose your skin to direct sunlight for a minimum of 24 to 48 hours following treatment.

You should avoid swimming and strenuous exercise for two to three days. You should not apply pressure to the treatment area. To avoid impacting results, you may sleep on your back and apply any products to your face lightly. Once the fillers settle (about seven to 10 days after treatment), you may return to your regular routine. You should avoid any medications or supplements that may thin the blood for at least one week after your Juvederm injections. You should avoid exfoliating skin products for at least 48 hours to avoid irritation. You will need to wait at least two weeks to undergo any skin-related procedures such as microneedling, laser resurfacing treatment, peels.

You will be able to see a difference in volume within treated areas immediately after treatment, though full results will take about two weeks to appear. Patients with a history of multiple severe allergies or a known allergy to Juvederm ingredients such as Gram-positive bacteria or lidocaine should not receive Juvederm injections.

What are the risks and side effects of Juvederm?

Juvederm is generally well-tolerated, though there are some risks and side effects associated with treatment. The most common side effects of Juvederm treated are related to injection sites and include temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, pain, firmness, bruising, lumps or bumps, itching, and discoloration. Dryness may also occur. These conditions typically resolve within two to four weeks. A serious risk related to Juvederm injections is the unintentional injection of the solution into a blood vessel. Though this is an extremely rare occurrence, it can cause severe and permanent complications such as vision impairment, blindness, stroke, or permanent scarring.
