Choosing Lip Fillers

Lip filler treatments are designed to be customized based on each individual’s unique facial features and aesthetic goals. The type of filler used will depend on several factors, including the individual’s age, skin type, and desired outcome.

Your Lip Filler Treatment

If you’re considering lip filler treatment, knowing what to expect during the procedure is important.

First, your healthcare provider will apply a topical anesthetic to your lips to numb them and make the procedure more comfortable. Then, they inject a dermal filler into your lips to add volume and enhance their shape. The length of the procedure can vary depending on the amount of filler being injected and the technique used by your provider. However, most lip filler treatments take around 15-30 minutes.

Results, Recovery, and Aftercare

You should see immediate results after getting lip fillers. However, it’s important to note that your lips can appear swollen or bruised for the first few days after the procedure.

This is normal and should subside within a week. After getting lip fillers, avoiding strenuous exercise for at least 24-48 hours is essential. Elevated blood pressure and heart rate from exercise can increase swelling and bruising.

You should also avoid alcohol, hot drinks, and salty foods for the first 24 hours, as they can dehydrate you and prolong swelling. Instead, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. To reduce swelling and bruising, apply ice to your lips for at least 20 minutes every hour during the first 48 hours after the procedure.

Lip Filler Swelling Stages

IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING YOUR PROCEDURE

Straight after the treatment, your lips will have significant swelling. You may also experience some redness and bruising around the injection site.

Day One

After receiving lip fillers, the most intense swelling will happen in the first 24-48 hours. During this period of recovery from injections, it is not uncommon to experience a little soreness and tenderness in your lips.

Day Two

Two days after your injections, your lips may still be a little swollen, sensitive, and bruised. The lips may feel ‘bumpy,’ but this is expected and should subside in a few days.

Day Three

Swelling will continue to subside and should be entirely gone after the first 48 hours. By day three, any remaining tenderness or bruising should be minimal.

Two Weeks

Around two weeks after your treatment, you should start to see the final results of your lip fillers. Any residual swelling or lumps should have disappeared by this point.

Four Weeks

Any minor asymmetries or irregularities in your lips should have resolved completely by the four-week mark.
