Chemical peels are customized to each individual. This highly versatile treatment can address a wide range of concerns from mild acne scarring to hyperpigmentation to enlarged pores. At EsthetixMD, we focus on delivering the results you want in the time frame you want them.

What is the purpose of a chemical peel?

The purpose of a chemical peel is to gently exfoliate the surface of the skin. Dead, damaged cells are removed using a precise chemical formulation. As old cells are reduced, the regeneration of healthy new cells speeds up to promote smoother, radiant skin.

How is a chemical peel customized to individual needs?

We customize chemical peels in a number of ways. First, we select the best formulation for your skin type and existing concerns or goals. We then determine the strength of ingredients and the duration the solution will be left on the skin. These factors will determine the downtime required after treatment, though we can tailor care based on your preferences.

Which types of peels do you offer?

We offer a number of pre-formulated peels, including:

  • Illuminize Peel®
  • Vitalize Peel®
  • Rejuvenize Peel®
  • Vi Peel®
  • Vi Peel Purify®
  • Jessner Peel
  • Obagi Blue

Are pre-formulated peels the only option?

Peels may also be customized based on the type of acid used to achieve the desired exfoliation. Some of the common customized peels we offer include ingredients such as:

  • Glycolic acid
  • Salicylic acid
  • Lactic acid
  • Trichloroacetic acid

Are chemical peels a good choice for me?

Chemical peels are excellent for patients who want to extend the youthfulness of their skin or who want to address specific issues. During your consultation we can discuss how a chemical peel may help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

What can be expected after a chemical peel?

Light peels require no down time and cause very little redness, if any. The gentle strength is suited to preventive dermatologic care. Medium peels, such as the Jessner peel, target moderate imperfections such as enlarged pores and slight acne scarring. After a medium peel, the skin may appear mildly red for a while. Stronger peels will promote extensive peeling, but will also achieve more dramatic results. To get a better timeframe for when healing will occur, we recommend you speak to our professional staff.

As the peel formula is topically applied, you’ll feel a slight stinging sensation which subsides almost immediately. Some patients may feel more comfortable using a fan or cold air breeze.

Your skin may have a slight tan, yellow, orange, or pink tinge. Days one and two post-procedure, the skin will feel slightly tighter, with no visible signs of having had a peel. Any pigmented areas may appear slightly darker.

There are no restrictions, but we recommend avoiding heavy sweating for the first few days after the peel. Normal activities can be resumed immediately following treatment, with proper limitation of sun exposure and use of an appropriate SPF.
