Fraxel: Advanced Laser Skin Resurfacing

LOOK MORE YOUTHFUL

Would you like to have bright, refreshed skin with attractively-even tone? Do you want your skin to look more youthful, without the extended downtime of aggressive resurfacing treatments or surgical procedures? Fraxel laser skin resurfacing treatment is an excellent choice, and it is available at EsthetixMD Med Spa & Laser Center in Bend, OR.

Our Central Oregon Med Spa features the innovative Fraxel laser skin resurfacing treatment in Bend. Traditional laser skin resurfacing removes skin, from the top downward, layer by layer, with pulses of concentrated light in a specific wavelength. While this treatment certainly improves wrinkles and irregularities in skin tone and texture, there can be a significant healing period. With the innovation of fractionated laser technology, Fraxel removes the obstacle of extended downtime standing between you and beautiful skin. The Fraxel device breaks the beam of laser light into a multitude of pinpoints. They penetrate the skin at a controlled depth, creating microscopic columns surrounded by unaffected skin cells. By treating only fractions of skin, this method triggers internal regeneration with rapid healing. Skin is essentially “resurfaced” from the inside out, rather than by removing the outermost layers.

How Fraxel Is Different

NATURAL PRODUCTION OF COLLAGEN

FDA-approved Fraxel is a further advance in this concept. Fraxel is an incredibly customized treatment. Pigmentation irregularities are a common complaint, and they can be resistant to chemical peels and microdermabrasion. Fraxel’s 1550 nm laser breaks up pigments in freckles, sunspots, and melasma so they may be harmlessly eliminated by the body’s natural processes.

Since this laser treats higher layers of skin, it is safe for most skin colors and can be used on the face, neck, chest, hands, and arms. The 1550 nm erbium non-ablative fractional component of Fraxel reaches deeper skin layers. It creates a thermal reaction that contracts tissues for immediate skin tightening and stimulates natural production of collagen for continued improvement. This treatment is ideal for lines and wrinkles, coarse skin texture, sun damage, and acne scars. The beauty of our Bend Fraxel system is its adaptability. Following a thorough evaluation of your skin, our trained, experienced clinicians design a treatment plan tailored to address your concerns. It may involve treatment with either Fraxel laser… alone or in combination with other anti-aging therapies available at EsthetixMD Med Spa & Laser Center.

What To Expect

A Fraxel appointment takes about an hour and a half, with the actual laser treatment portion of the session requiring 20 to 25 minutes for a full-face treatment. After your skin is cleansed, a topical anesthetic is applied to ensure a comfortable experience. When skin is numb, the clinician moves the laser handpiece over the treatment area, making several passes.

You feel a sensation of warmth, as laser energy is transferred to skin layers. However, a flow of cool air helps to maintain a comfortable temperature at the surface. Skin is pink and feels like a mild sunburn for several hours after treatment. Depending on your customized strategy, there may be some swelling or puffiness the next morning, which typically resolves within a few days. The skin may develop a sandpaper texture as a result of treated tissue working its way to the surface as it is replaced by fresh cells.

This is normal and temporary. Pigmentation spots bronze, then begins to slough off three to four days after treatment. Full recovery from face treatment generally takes five to seven days, and a bit longer for other areas of the body. High-quality mineral makeup may be applied during healing. The overall condition of skin continues to improve for several months after treatment. It is important to wear broad-spectrum, high SPF sunscreen every day to maintain healthy skin. While Fraxel cannot stop the aging process entirely, results are long-lasting with good daily skin care. Recommended number of sessions and their timing is also personalized. For example, an effective regimen may include three to five Fraxel treatments spaced about a month apart.

Adaptable Treatment

Fraxel offers a variety of applications to suit your skin’s specific needs without over-treating. Fraxel Duel is a non-ablative treatment that offers two wavelengths.

While the 1550nm laser penetrates deeper to treat more significant lines and scarring, Fraxel also offers a 1927nm treatment for more superficial signs of damage. This treatment mode focuses on skin tone, texture, and surface damage caused by sun exposure or aging. Are you ready for a glowing, younger-looking complexion with improved tone and texture? Fraxel Frequently Asked Questions

How soon will I see my results from Fraxel?

You are likely to notice an improvement in treated skin as soon as the treatment area heals. As collagen and elastin production increase, your results will continue to improve for months.

How can I prepare for my Fraxel laser treatment?

Preparation for treatment is minimal. We recommend that patients temporarily discontinue skin peels, retinoids, acids, or any other product that may increase sensitivity one week before treatment. There are no special instructions for the day of treatment.

How long will my Fraxel results last?

Fractional laser resurfacing results last approximately eight to 10 years with proper maintenance. The regular use of moisturizers and protection from sun exposure can significantly increase the longevity of your results. Follow-up laser treatment can keep your skin looking bright and smooth indefinitely.

What are the risks and side effects of Fraxel?

The most common side effects that occur as a result of Fraxel treatment are mild redness and swelling that will resolve within several hours to a few days. Fraxel may also cause temporary darkening of treated skin, infection, acne, or scarring. Fraxel may cause patients carrying the herpes virus to experience a flare-up after treatment.

Who should not receive Fraxel treatment?

Laser resurfacing may cause complications for patients with certain autoimmune disorders, a history of scarring, past facial radiation therapy, darker skin tones, or who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients who experience herpes outbreaks should ask their provider if Fraxel is right for them.

ESTHETIXMD TESTIMONIALS

“Wow! I had a Fraxel treatment done here at EsthetixMD. It was my first time being treated here and I was blown away with how amazing and kind all of the staff was! I was a little nervous to do the procedure but my tech made sure I was very comfortable. My tech was very knowledgeable and so well trained! I was interested in the Fraxel because I have quite a bit of acne scarring, mostly around my mouth. I’ve struggled with adult acne for about 8 years. I’ve always been very insecure with my skin ever since. Always packing on full coverage foundation to hide my insecurities. Well NOT ANYMORE! It’s been about 3 weeks since my treatment and I have NEVER loved my skin as much as I do now. This treatment truly changed my life! I am not only using a light powder foundation (just to hide some redness I have) but I have gotten so many compliments on my skin. I’m in complete awe and so greatful for the staff at EsthetixMD. Not only does my face look and feel more even, its glowing! The acne scarring has faded dramatically! I’ve also had the least amount of breakouts since I first started getting them 8 years ago. Thank you so much for giving me so much more confidence! I can’t wait to get more treatment done! ”
