Bend, OR wants to know: Does ZWave for cellulite have other benefits?

03 Dec

Cellulite is an extremely common condition. About 90 percent of women start seeing this dimpled appearance on their abdomens, buttocks, and thighs beginning as early as age 25. While there is no cure for cellulite, today we have a better understanding of what causes it. We also have incredible technologies such as Z-Wave that can treat cellulite and significantly improve skin firmness with only a few treatments. Here’s what to know about Z-Wave and the many benefits to our Bend, OR patients.

What Is Cellulite?

There are a lot of misconceptions about cellulite. Cellulite is not a special kind of fat – it’s a product of the structure of the skin’s connective tissue. There are a few different components at play with cellulite. The skin is structured such that the top layer is tethered to the deeper tissues with collagen bands interspersed around the area. Between these layers is subcutaneous fat. In some cases, the skin connective tissue results in dimpling when fatty tissue pushes the skin outward.

This means that cellulite can’t be treated with any topical cream or treatment. Rather, more advanced treatment is needed to impact this collagen structure and destabilize the connective tissue.

What Causes Cellulite?

Cellulite is a combination of physiological traits. The biggest factors that contribute to cellulite include:

  • Subcutaneous fat – Everyone has this layer just beneath their skin. It helps to regulate body temperature and cushion organs. Some people have cellulite despite low amounts of subcutaneous fat and vice versa.
  • Septae – Collagen fibers connect the skin to underlying tissues. In some people, it forms a meshwork of bands. When fat pushes up against these bands it creates puckers and depressions at the surface.
  • Thin skin – Cellulite tends to show more readily on thin skin.
  • Body fat – While even thin, fit people may have cellulite, excess fat can be a contributing factor.
  • Hormone fluctuations – The combination of characteristics that cause cellulite is linked to estrogen levels, making women more prone to cellulite than men.
  • Lymphatic function – Lymphatic vessels, connected to lymph nodes, help to fight infection and rid the body of toxins. When this system doesn’t perform properly, fluid builds up beneath the skin, worsening the appearance of cellulite.

How Z-Wave Treatment Helps Cellulite

Non-invasive Z-Wave treatment uses acoustic wave therapy (sometimes called radial shock wave therapy) to reduce cellulite. As high-energy radial shockwaves (powerful sound waves) of a specific frequency painlessly penetrate the skin, they soften septae – connective tissue bands. This boosts more uniform collagen production, contributing to naturally thicker, firmer skin. The mechanical (vibrational) effect of Z-Wave stimulates lymphatic drainage. This combination of benefits aids in skin tightening and cellulite reduction.

Can Z-Wave Treat Stretch Marks?

Another benefit of Z-Wave’s high-energy radial shockwaves is that it can help reduce the appearance of scar tissue and stretch marks. By boosting collagen formation, Z-Wave treatments can rejuvenate skin tissue and create smooth, flawless skin. If you’ve recently noticed stretch marks after weight gain or pregnancy, this non-invasive treatment can help.

Can I Combine Z-Wave With Body Contouring Treatments?

Yes! Z-Wave for body sculpting is an excellent accompaniment to other body contouring treatments such as CoolSculpting or Emsculpt. Not only can Z-Wave improve skin elasticity, tighten loose skin, and improve the appearance of cellulite, but options such as CoolSculpting and Emsculpt can reduce fat cells and help you achieve optimal results.
